About the lecturer

Thorsten Wiegand (http://www.thorsten-wiegand.de) is a theoretical ecologist, currently working at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in Leipzig, Germany. His scientific career started at the University of Marburg where he studied Physics, but already during his Ph.D., Thorsten Wiegand focused on theoretical ecology. At the latest with a post-doc position at the UFZ in 1992, he completely shifted to ecology. His research focuses on spatially explicit and individual-based simulation models and spatial point pattern analysis. Today, Thorsten Wiegand is the author of numerous publications using point pattern analysis, including the development of new methods (e.g. Wiegand et al., 2016), as well as applied studies (e.g. Wiegand et al., 2017). Besides his research, he also taught spatial point pattern courses, published a well-known textbook about the topic (Wiegand and Moloney, 2014) and is the author of the spatial point pattern analysis software Programita.
