If you want to change the graph independently from the predefined layouts, you can achieve this by some direct drag and drop actions. You can just hold the mouse button over a node and drag it in the desired position.
These changes can be revoked by redrawing the graph by View -> Redraw.

It’s also feasible to hide all children relations of a node by a double click on it. Then the shape of the node appears rounded. A repeated double click undoes this alteration.
