You can get to the 3D Modelling Layout by the Menu Bar -> Panels -> 3D Modelling. This layout is another predefined layout which was designed for a better direct, clear and from the growth grammar independent manipulation of the 3D model. It’s also possible to create complete new 3D models.
The Editor, the Messages Window and the XL Console were deleted from this layout for a better clarity and because they aren’t necessary. Instead of the control buttons for the model growth, some new control buttons for the manipulation of the model are visible. Their functionality will be explained in this unit.
If you want to integrate these new elements in the RGG Layout, you can reach them at the Menu Bar -> Panels -> 3D -> Toolbar.
At first, we’re treating these three buttons: From left to right, it’s the translation tool to move the object in space, the next is the rotation tool and the last is the scale tool. The translation tool is predefined.
We’re going to test this tool by selecting an object. Now, we’re clicking on one of the three coordinate arrows. If you’re holding the mouse button down, you can move the object in the direction – or the opposite direction – of the arrow. The colour of a selected arrow automatically changes to yellow. This tool allows us to move the object in every direction.
If you take a look at the Attribute Editor, you can see that the manipulations of the objects are nothing more than transformations. Theoretically, it’s possible to obtain the same transformation by a key input.
Furthermore, you can see that the children objects are also being transformed by this manipulation which was already explained in a similar way for the delete-feature. If you want to avoid this, the option “Transform Children” can be disabled in the Attribute Editor. Then the children objects are being attached to the next object in the hierarchy and the selected object is being treated as independent. This option can be reversed at any time.
Now, we’re choosing the rotation tool and see that three circles are being displayed instead of the arrows. These symbolize the transformation direction along the coordinate axes. The object will rotate by a selection of a circle and the movement of the mouse in the desired direction.
At last, we’re picking the scale tool: Three cubes are being displayed. The principle of change is the same. It’s possible to scale the object up or down in the appropriate direction.
Now, we’re switching back to the RGG Layout to elucidate a further effect. The selected tool in the 3D Modelling Layout remains the same in the RGG Layout and it’s, of course, useable in this layout.
