GroIMP Module 1 English

We’re starting the software GroIMP after the successful installation from the shortcut on the desktop or from the shortcut in the start menu.
We see just a blank user interface with the menu bar from where new projects can be created or opened.
First of all, we’re going to create a new project by clicking on File -> New -> RGG-Project. An RGG-Project is a project for the development of models which are based on relational growth grammars. A project is thereby a superior level with several different files and where all preferences can be saved. It is also possible to open or to save a single RGG File without managing this as a project.
After we’ve clicked on RGG-Project a new name for the RGG Class – this is the RGG File inside the new project – must be set. The predefined “Model” can be kept at first and we’re clicking on “OK”.
After the RGG user interface of GroIMP has been loaded, it opens a simple example model.
The 3D Window with different control possibilities for the model growth, several options for the camera and further buttons to navigate inside the 3D View is located below the menu bar on the left side. The 3D View is for the visualization of the geometric model.
The Editor (jEdit) is located on the right sight of the screen. The model-file “model.rgg” has been loaded inside of it. This first project is based just on the few lines of model code in the RGG File which contains the growth grammar. The code can be executed from the control buttons of the 3D View by which the model will be shown visually.
From this tab we’re getting to the “Attribute Editor” which will be explained in a later unit.
The “Messages Window” and the “XL Console” are located below the editor. At first, the Messages Window is more important because it shows relevant messages which regard the compiling.
The File Explorer is located below the 3D View. From here it’s possible to see and to select all files of a project. As you can see, the File Explorer contains the RGG File “model.rgg”, too. By “Meta-Objects” it’s possible to change basic preferences and initial values of the RGG File which don’t need to be regarded now.
Finally, we’re closing GroIMP. Because we didn’t change anything, the software won’t ask us to save the project.
