Reference management programmes can assist you in citing literature you have used in your work. As already described in chapter 1, whenever you mention someone else’s idea or research results in your text, you must properly cite the source. All else would violate the rules of good academic practice and committing plagiarism could lead to some serious consequences. The academic standard implies that the reader should be able to easily trace and verify all findings and arguments presented in a paper. The International Writing Centre of the University of Göttingen and the Writing Advisory Centre of Social Sciences offer individual consultations and courses on citations and plagiarism.
