Finding the right database with DBIS (4/19)
It is important to find the right database(s) for your topic or your research question. You will find almost all relevant databases that are either open access or licenced by the Göttingen State and University Library in the database system (DBIS).
You will find DBIS in the search menu in the top right corner of the homepage of the Göttingen State and University Library. If you know the name of the database you are looking for, you can find it by simply typing its name into the search field in DBIS. In this video prepared by the Göttingen State and University Library, we explain how to use the database system DBIS.
Almost all subjects have a number of top databases selected by subject experts as especially significant for the subject, e.g. for linguistics and literary studies these are BDSL or MLA. In most cases, you will find a wide selection of literature when searching in these databases. When your question has a very specific focus, it could be useful to refer to databases with a specific thematic focus. When your research question touches upon theories or aspects from other subject areas you can include other subject databases in your search. DBIS provides information such as review period, covered subjects areas, and keywords for every database listed in the system.
