Time management (2/10)
Take into consideration that you also need to get, assess, and read the books and articles you have found – all this requires time. Depending on your time plan and the state of research, it is also recommended to take into account the availability of sources. It is advisable that you get the most essential publications on your topic at an early stage. Moreover, you should remember that the greater part of your work involves your own critical thinking and the writing process.
To avoid spending too much time on one step, e.g. literature search, and to always keep the whole project in mind, it is helpful to have a detailed time schedule. However, you should also keep your schedule flexible. There are various tools and strategies that could help you learn to use your time wisely. In the course of your studies, you can try out different time management tips and discover those that perfectly fit your individual needs.
You can check out the time management tools and resources introduced by the Simon Fraser University Library. You will also find courses on time management in the course listings of the ZESS as well as in the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
