From one text to another: snowball technique (12/14)

The technique that involves jumping from one interesting result to another is known as the snowball technique. This technique implies exploring the list of references in the sources you have already found. As described in chapter 1, every scholarly work includes a list of sources that have informed its research. Such lists of sources can lead you to other literature relevant to your research and to fundamental publications on your topic. If you notice certain titles and names that keep appearing in texts, as a rule, those might be the groundworks and the leading scholars in your field.

Some databases, e.g. Web of Science, mention how often by whom articles are cited making it easy for the users to track thematically relevant sources.
