Searching by subject headings (9/14)
Subject headings are words that describe the content of a text. You can use subject headings to look for literature related to your topic. Some titles are phrased in such a way that they do not reveal much about the actual content of the text. Thus, they cannot be found by keywords. Using subject headings in your search will lead to more precise results. Subject headings are based on predefined “controlled vocabulary” and are usually assigned by subject specialists, e.g. by librarians, publishers, or authors themselves. Lists of subject headings organised hierarchically are known as thesauri.
