Where do I search for literature? (2/19)
The three most important platforms for literature searching are:
subject databases In subject databases you will primarily find individual articles from periodicals and edited collections which are suitable for profound research on a topic or its individual aspects. Often such articles can be downloaded in PDF format.
library catalogues Library catalogues, as, for example, the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK), contain publications (primarily books and journals) available for loan.
Internet On the Internet, you will come across various materials (texts, videos, graphs etc.) you could use to check up on some facts or to get some general information on your topic.

We recommend searching for literature in different search engines to sift through all literature that could possibly be relevant to your topic. The scale of your research process depends on the topic and the requirements of your work and it increases together with the level of your studies (term paper, bachelor thesis, master thesis, doctoral dissertation). The question of how to evaluate search results is explained in detail in chapter 5.
