Searching like a pro. Online course on literature searching.

Welcome!

Literature search is essential for all kinds of academic work, be it a presentation, a term paper, or a thesis. In this online course, you will get to know the most important strategies and tips for literature searching. For subject-specific research tips and tools you can refer to the subject information pages on the website of the Göttingen State and University Library.
  1. Why literature search?
  2. What do I search for?
  3. Where do I search?
  4. How do I search efficiently?
  5. Literature found - what now?

You can complete all five chapters one after the other. You can, however, also skip topics you are familiar with and focus on your chosen content instead.

The guide for effective literature searching (see the download box at the bottom) outlines the key steps in the process of literature searching in different search platforms. A glossary of difficult terms is embedded in this course.

To receive a confirmation of participation, you have to take the final test at the end of this course. Unlike the rest of the course content, the final test is not anonymised (i.e. the names of the test participants are visible to the authors of the course). Upon successful completion of the test (min. 60%), a confirmation of participation will be issued and sent to your e-mail address provided on StudIP. In addition, we kindly ask you to participate in our evaluation and, thus, help us improve this course in the future.

We wish you lots of fun in this course!
