Numbers: Basics
words like eins, zwei, drei. They are also called cardinal numbers.
Der Hörsaal hat zweihundert Plätze.
Fünf Personen machen ein Foto.
Im Berliner Zoo gibt es drei Giraffen.
define a countable quantity:
- of objects: zweihundert Plätze
- of individuals: fünf Personen
- of animals: drei Giraffen
- ...
you ask for the quantity or number of objects, persons, animals etc.

Wie viele Giraffen hat der Berliner Zoo?
not change and you write them with a small letter. If the basic number is greater than eins, then the following noun is in the plural.
- Der Hörsaal hat zweihundert Plätze.
- Am Bahnhof stehen sieben Taxis.
- Im Berliner Zoo gibt es drei Giraffen.
is only used for counting: eins, zwei, drei...
If the basic number eins precedes a noun, it is inflected like the indefinite article ein:

das Auto: Auf der Straße parkt ein Auto.
die Giraffe: Der Zoo hat eine Giraffe.
