GroIMP always carries along a graph, which contains all structural information. The 2-dimensioal view of this graph is useful to get a quick overview of the object structure of the model. The objects are called nodes in graph theory. The graph view is also automatically actualized by the execution of the model.
You can get to the 2D Graph View by the Menu Bar-> Panels -> 2D -> Graph. For a better work, we’re anchoring the 2D Graph View inside the user interface. The best position is here, because the Attribute Editor and the 3D View are visible, too.
The 2D Graph View displays all model objects and the information about the structures – their relations to each other – as they were generated by the growth grammar. The already known hierarchical Object Inspector depicts the objects in a similar way. Like in the Object Inspector, all objects – or nodes – can be selected. It’s also possible to select the rotation nodes.
If you’ve selected an object, you can see and alter the properties in the Attribute Editor. The RHs and RUs are the rotation nodes, the Fs are the branches and the As are the buds.
Furthermore, the edges, which are the relations between the nodes, are visible and selectable in form of the arrows. Branching edges are shown as dashed arrows.
If we’re executing the growth grammar, which changes the 3D model, the 2D Graph View changes too. At first, this isn’t really organized. If you want to see the graph after an application of the growth grammar in its correct order, you have to redraw it by View -> Redraw. After that, the structures and relations are depicted correctly.
Two other options are for one thing to hide the whole graph by View -> Collapse All and for another thing to depict the whole graph by “Expand All”.
