After we got to know some options to change the camera view, we’ll now see some more basic options for changing the camera perspective.
These can be reached by Camera -> Edit, and the Attribute Editor is opening on the right side of the screen with different options for the camera. In short, the Attribute Editor is designed to alter the attributes of model objects and the preferences of GroIMP elements.
We see two buttons which will be explained in detail. The other options below can be ignored for now. At first, we’re looking at the button below the title “Projection”. This button – you can activate the options per left click – is for changing the projection type of the camera view.
The perspective projection – another name is "central projection" – is predefined. Edges which are parallel in space aren’t shown as parallel. They unite optically in the so called vanishing point which lends the model more depth. This conforms to the human vision where objects appear to be smaller which are further away.
This is different in the parallel projection. Lines that run parallel are displayed as parallel. All depicted surfaces are clearly recognizable because their size is independent from the distance.
The last projection is the lens projection which is basically similar to the central projection. But some more options – like the focal distance – are available.
On the one side, you can directly choose the perspective or the parallel projection from the button “Camera” and on the other side you can set the camera in the desired position by one click on “Top”, “Bottom”, “Front”, “Back”, “Left” or “Right”. Then the projection shifts automatically to the parallel projection. This is useful because you can see the model distortion-free from the desired position.
The Attribute Editor can be quit by choosing the Editor from the tab. It’s essential to know that an alteration in the Attribute Editor doesn’t need to be confirmed by a button click as it is usual in common programmes. The alteration stays active until another adjustment is set.
